STUDIO CLOSING

A Farewell to vyb studio

With heavy hearts, vyb studio will be closing its doors for good.

Our final day of operations will be November 30, 2026.

WHY WE'RE CLOSING:

We are so grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey. We want to be transparent about how we arrived at this decision, what it means for our clients, and how we will spend our final weeks together.

2026 began with real momentum and growth for vyb. The New Year season is an important time for a wellness business like ours, when people are motivated to begin new practices and establish routines. February's winter weather disrupted the rhythm we had worked so hard to build, and despite months of effort, we were never able to regain that momentum.

Building a small, independent wellness studio has always been challenging, but our experience in Winston-Salem has been especially difficult. From navigating unexpected barriers to offering community classes, to encountering marketing costs beyond what a small business can reasonably afford, to struggling to establish partnerships with local employers, we have continually searched for ways to reach new people and make our offerings more accessible. Despite those efforts, we haven't been able to build the consistent local support we need.

We intentionally created something different from the larger fitness and yoga spaces around us: a more intimate environment focused on personal practice, deep listening, meditation, and inner growth. We know this approach isn't for everyone, and we never intended it to be. But operating a small studio means we depend on consistent, full-room attendance to sustain the business. Meanwhile, rent, utilities, and other operating expenses have continued to rise, leaving us with less and less room to recover.

In September, we reimagined vyb around sound and meditation, hoping to build on the offerings our clients had connected with most (and the ones we wanted to share the most). We poured ourselves into this new direction, believing it could give the studio a fresh start. Sadly, attendance continued to decline rapidly rather than grow.

We have continued to invest our time, money, and energy into keeping vyb alive. We have adapted, tried new approaches, advertised, and explored different ways forward. But we have reached a point where we no longer have the financial resources to continue carrying the business in the hope that things will turn around.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision. We are heartbroken that this chapter is ending, but we also know we have given it everything we have. Sometimes, love for what you create isn't enough to make a business sustainable. As difficult as it is to accept, it is time for us to close this chapter.

  • OUR STORY + A PERSONAL THANK YOU:

Our story with vyb has never been an easy one. We opened our first studio in Durham in 2020, at the very beginning of the pandemic. In fact, the day our doors were supposed to open was the very same day North Carolina ordered businesses to close. We had poured so much time, energy, and money into bringing this dream to life, only to find ourselves unable to open our doors for seven months while still responsible for rent, utilities, and all the expenses of a brand-new business.

Somehow, we kept going and our studio in Durham thrived.

When we eventually made our way to Winston-Salem, we started again in the most personal way possible: teaching out of our home. Many of you reading this first met us there. You practiced with us in our backyard studio, followed us as we grew, and continued to support us as we eventually opened the doors to our own studio on Country Club Road. We will never forget that, and we can never fully express how much your continued support has meant to us.

The truth is, building vyb has been a struggle from the very beginning. There have been beautiful moments, meaningful connections, and experiences that have made every bit of it worthwhile. There have also been many difficult moments behind the scenes that most people never saw. We have continued to adapt, reinvent, and find ways to keep this dream alive, even when things felt uncertain.

Closing the studio is heartbreaking, but we are also deeply grateful for everything this journey has given us. We are proud of what we created, the people we met, and the space we held for one another along the way.

November 30 marks the end of this chapter of our lives. We plan to continue sharing practices through on-demand offerings. I don't know exactly what the next chapter will look like yet, and for now, I'm allowing myself the space to figure that out.

To everyone who has practiced with us, welcomed us into your lives, supported our small business, or simply believed in what we were trying to create: thank you. Whether you've been with us since our Durham days, first found us in our backyard, or only recently walked through the doors of vyb studio, you have been part of our story.

We may not have gotten the ending we once imagined, but we are so grateful that we got to share this journey with you.
