What is a Sound Bath?

A sound bath is a meditative experience where participants are “bathed” in sound waves produced by various instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, chimes, and other resonant objects. These sounds create a therapeutic environment that can help quiet the mind, reduce anxiety, and promote deep relaxation.

Experiencing a sound bath meditation can evoke a wide range of reactions, and it’s important to understand that not all responses are purely relaxing.

For instance, some participants may feel anxiety or encounter unpleasant emotions during certain sounds. Brass instruments, like gongs and singing bowls, have a tendency to really bring out negative energy that we are consciously or subconsciously holding onto. This reaction is quite common and is part of the healing process. Our sound baths are intended to heal the nervous system and release stuck energy and emotions.

The goal of this practice is to sit with any discomfort, let it pass, and allow the body to release it. Responses to sound and frequency can vary, and these powerful vibrations can ignite responses in your nervous system. It’s natural to enter a state of fight or flight when an uncomfortable emotion or memory arises; the key is to relax and breathe through any mental or emotional discomfort that arise, facilitating the body’s release of these pent-up energies.
